After you perform the align left and the message is aligned to the left. Close the composed message. It should prompt you to save your changes. Select save. Open a new message and see if that fixed it.

Oh yes. I have tried that. Aligned to the left, closed message and was asked if I want to save... Yes.
Next message is centered again.
