Default Attempting to create a rule. Msg working offline need to use exchange account

I have a number of email accounts all of which apart from one exchange account are IMAP/SMTP accounts. The exchange account is no longer used and has been closed but I still have the old emails on my laptop. I have used rules in the past without any problems. Now when I attempt to create a rule in any of my IMAP/SMTP accounts I get the message "Currently working offline. To use this command, you must go online and connect to MS Exchange account". I am not online and no longer have access to an MS Exchange account.

Please advise how to resolve this. With many thanks
