Thanks.. I will try the next time I have the problem and post back.

The only thing is of course that, as I say, closing Outlook and restarting it often does the trick, so doing the same and restarting in safe mode might not prove anything. Will have to wait until a message stubbornly refuses to go even when I have closed and reopened Outlook two or three times, then try.
