I have Outlook 2010 (32bit) with a private and business (pop3) account, each with e-mail, contacts and calendars, on Windows 7. Recently I bought a Windows 8 phone. Now what I want all information to be available also on my phone, and nicely separated between business and private.
E-Mail was easy, as I can directly get e-mail from the servers in my phone.
Getting a Hotmail account, I managed to synchronize contacts, though I had to merge them into 1 address book. I can still separate them via categories in Outlook, so that is acceptable.
The problem is with calendars. What I want is
- Have business and private calendars separated
- Have both calendars available in outlook and in my phone
- Automatically add invitations I receive to the correct calendar (from private account to private calendar)
- Automatic synchronization without any manual steps between outlook and phone.
So far, no success. I have tried the following
- Client-side sync: found that there is no way, requires server side synchronization.
- Moving my private calendar to Hotmail, as Microsoft describes it for any number of calendars. Now invitations I receive are added to the calendar in my local pst file as before (associated to that account) and need to be moved manually to the Hotmail calendar. Changing the default calendar does not help, because there is only 1 global default calendar, not one per account. So if I want business and private calendars to be automatically and correctly separated, this is not enough.
- Getting my e-mail via Hotmail. Delay until mails are received is way too long, no way to work like that. Did not even make it to trying both accounts.
- Sharing an outlook calendar. But unless I make it public (which I do not want), I cannot import it in Hotmail.
I don’t think that what I want is very advanced, so I guess it is possible somehow. Any help is appreciated.
