Default recurring meeting problems

Ok so here is a fun issue i have been running into at the company that i wor for and have yet to find a plausible explaination. Now and then we will have one of the assistants update a single instance of a recurring meeting and then send the update, or they will create a new series of recurring meetings and send the series out. Well when the people who are scheduled to attend these meetings receive the meeting request or update and accept it they will then get another invite or update reminder for every single other occurrence of the recurring meeting. Now for a little more info we are running outlook 2010 on exchange server 2007. I have through my research found out that this can be caused by a person sending or receiving the invites from a smartphone but the users in question claim that there is not a smart phone in the mix. Also through research i have found that if you make updates to a single instance of a meeting in a series of meetings and then forward that series to a person it can cause a similar outcome, but after checking the users actual send logs it is apparent that the meeting requests and updates were not forwarded. I am open to any and all ideas at this point.
