Default Does backing up contacts delete old contacts?

I recently went through my contacts in OutLook and changed a number of them. Minor changes; like changing "Elizabeth" to "Liz" and correcting the spelling of some last names. Now I'm going to back up my contacts. If I ever have to retreive the contacts and re-install from back-up, am I going to have duplicate contacts with both Liz and Eliabeth? Or will the back up just mirror what I have now?
