Default Lost notes after reset - can retrieve?

Help!!
I bought my Surface Pro in June (Windows 10).
I started using OneNote, opening it simply by clicking the top button of the Surface pen.
I really liked the tool and accumulated a few work notes quickly, some important.

Today, for the first time, OneNote would not open; the title page would just stay there, with the circling dot pattern ... well, circling on and on.
I closed OneNote from Task Manager and restarted it. Same story.

I then stopped it again (do not recall how) but this time I was asked whether I wanted to "reset". The caption said that changes in "open notes" would not be saved.
Assuming my notes were not "open", I pressed reset.

Now all notes are gone and OneNote treats me as a total beginner.
I went on the OneDrive and do not manage to find anything.
The OneNote directory in the system is empty.

Is there any way I can retrieve my work? Sorry for the long message.
Thank you in advance.
