It may be that the documents have been moved to a different location for some reason. Documents created using earlier versions of Word are completely compatible with later versions of Word.
Go to File Explorer and search for documents with ".doc" contained in the filename. Search the whole drive and I am sure they will appear unless they have been deleted by mistake.
