I just upgraded from Win7 32 bit 2GB RAM to Win7 64 bit 4GB RAM. Within the 32 bit 2GB RAM environment I found '07 modules to be slow loading and not infrequently going not responding--particularly Outlook. Whereas '03 was always quick (previous to installing '07). The performance problem I was experiencing with '07 could have been the 2GB of memory at the time, my older Windows 7 installation that had problems or...
Not remembering where I had stashed the Office '07 disk I installed '03 with the new setup...and of course Office flies. I'd like to go back to '07 due to particular features but maybe not at the expense of great performance. So here are my questions. 1. Given two equal 4GB RAM machines running newly installed Win7 64 bit, should the performance of '03 = '07? 2. With '03 currently installed, can I install '07 to determine any significant performance difference? 3. Whereas Mail is 32 bit under Office '03, is it 64 bit aware in '07? Is there any significant increase in performance for local POP3 mail (not exchange) under 64 bit? 4. Can I mix modules between the different versions of Office (e.g. Word '03 + Outlook '07)? Thanks, Mark |

Update:
I uninstalled '03, installed '07 (only what I use, not what I thought I might use--Word, Excel, Tools and Outlook). There's a night and day load and response increase with '07 on this new setup (4GB + 64bit + clean install) vs prior 2GB 32 bit. Although I still would prefer no ribbons, the features of the newer Outlook make the effort worthwhile. |
