Microsoft Office 2010 programs display error message "Application has failed to start

Hi, I'm having a problem with the Microsoft Office 2010 software programs. When I initiate any of them (Word, Excel, etc), I get an error message that reads: "Application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect".

I am running this software in the Windows Vista Operating System. Does anyone have any solutions to the problem?

I see it is a common problem, so I assume there must be a simple solution that a non-software engineer can implement. Thank you!!

Have you tried doing a repair installation of Office 2010? http://www.officeforlawyers.com/repairoffice.html
