Exclamation How to recover MS Office File

I have a question that I couldn't find any solution on the internet, what I know is by using a backup software program.
Here's the situation:
One user is using any of the Office program, such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, except Outlook. While working for several hours, and not saving the file, suddenly the Office Program crashed! Example, the user is using Excel, typing for several hours, then it crashed, just the office. But here's the problem, the Autosave isn't checked. The laptop doesn't have recovery program.

So the question is, how can you recover or is there a way to retrieve the file back using Windows feature itself? It's like you'll track back its footprints...

Thank you and hope to hear soon!

Open whichever program you were working with, start it then use File\Recent|Recover Unsaved Documents/Workbooks/etc.

Thank you for your fast reply...

But what if the case is you can't open the file from that process, any other solutions?

Thank you!

Well, if you don't have backups - which you should - about the best you can do is check Office's Temp folder:
C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Temp\
and check whether Word, Excel, etc. will open any of the temporary files there. Beyond that, you might have some success with file recovery software, but the prospects for success diminish with every time you do something that changes a file already on disk or add new ones to it.

When Office app closes unexpectedly before you save your most recent changes, Document Recovery automatically opens the next time you open the Office app to help you get your file back.

If you see multiple files in the Available Files list on the Document Recovery pane and you're not sure which ones to save, the date and creation time of any automatically saved document appears under the document name, which may give you a clue about which file you want to recover. If you see multiple versions of the same file, you'll probably want to open the one with the most recent time because it will have the most recent changes. You can also click each file to open the document and review it. After opening any file in the list, you can continue working in it, and you can close the Document Recovery pane when you have recovered all documents that you want to save.

You can quickly delete unwanted files by clicking the arrow next to the file name, and then clicking Delete.

If you click Close without reviewing all recovered files, you'll see an option to view them again later. The next time you open the application you'll have the option to save or remove those autorecover files.

Yes, I want to view these files later (safest option) - Select this option if you are not sure whether you need the data in the recovered versions of the files.

No, remove the files. I have saved the files I need- Select this option if you are sure you don't need the data in the recovered versions of the files.
