If you purchase an activation key and want to know if it is real you can contact Microsoft of course. You could also use a program called Belarc (free) and scan your computer and it will give you a lot of information about your computer including serial numbers for installed programs. If you activation key is not real it will tell you. Behind office for example it might tell you that the key expires at a certain date.
