The stand alone version of Office 2013 will update 2010, unless you use a custom installation to leave the earlier version in place. The 365 version uses a different method of installation and may not affect the 2010 installation, so check the dialogs carefully.

If you uninstall 2010, 2013 should pick up the settings it requires. Uninstalling Office does not remove personal files.

Frankly, unless you have already bought 2013, or it is a job requirement, I wouldn't bother. 2010 is altogether a more comfortable user experience. There is very little that 2013 will do that is useful that 2010 won't do. I have both installed here, and invariably use 2010 for preference.

I have not used Outlook 2013, but there is mixed feedback, so I have no intention of changing to Outlook 2013, unless circumstances force the change.
