I guess it wasn't clear, I ran the Fix-It and then of course tried to reinstall Office which ended up with the same ambiguous error message. Unfortunately, there aren't any system restore points before the upgrade, only starting afterwards. I'm assuming that the upgrade clears the system restore points.
Any other thoughts?
