Your description suggests some system corruption, or a rogue background app, has cause you rotated image content to be lost. You may be able to recover them via Windows Explorer, by right-clicking on the images and choosing Properties>Previous versions. Note also that if these changes were made to images that were on USB drives at the time (I note your current path doesn't indicate that), it's quite possible the data were corrupted because someone removed the drive before the updates had been written to it (e.g. by not going through the 'safe remove' process).
