I took my Brother laser apart to cleaned it out. then I put it back together. after that Publisher cycled on a statement regarding what capabilities the printer had. I rebooted and got into publisher without the "question". But after starting a print job, the printer properties opened to show the print job and then the print job disappeared. Normally the printer shows up in the system tray and I can see what number document the printer is now printing. the printer works but Publisher can't see what it's doing.

You've probably changed a setting on your printer that reports back to Windows/Publisher. Check the printer manual for the appropriate settings.
