Your description suggests the problem is related to the lock/unlock function on your laptop that doesn't reactivate the Word document correctly. Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Programs & Features > Microsoft Office > Change in the Windows Control Panel)? I'm not sure that would work, though, as the problem might be at a more basic level, involving Windows itself and/or your hardware.
