I'm studying for my excel cert. I downloaded the study guide off the internet for 2010. It's a big book. I also took a bunch of training classes through the online training my work provides. it has helped a bunch. I am going to study more before i go take the test but i think i am ready. I asked a teacher about the test and she said that it consists of doing excel work in a controlled testing environment versus a written test.

I know about the MOS exams in depth, what do you want to know? I'm certified in v2000, XP, 2003, 2007 and 2010.

in the test can you do things different ways? like keyboard shortcuts and mouse clicks or do they want you to use the buttons across the top. All the online training I have taken makes you use the buttons across the top. I don't know if you are familiar with skill soft but that is where i have taken all my training. I have went through all the basic and advanced training on there and the first class from the power user section. I also took the practice test and got a B the first try. I am hoping this is equivalent to what the test will be like. I just need to study a little more on the image tools and sparklines those are my weak points. I don't usually use those that much. Any info you can provide that you think will help is appreciated.

Which country are you in?
The exam uses the actual application for you to do the exam, it's not a simulated environment so the normal methods will all work. I use alot of keyboard shortcuts but in the exams I always used the Ribbon/Menu's for the majority. Essentially as long as you meet the requirements of the question that is all that matters. One thing I do recommend that is if you have a question you are not sure of, do a little searching around to find how to answer and then Reset the question. There is a button you push to reset the question, then answer it correctly using the correct steps. Some questions are multi-part questions whilst others have only 1 outcome to meet. I am based in Australia and the company who manages the certification program here has Practice Test software you can purchase to test out your skills. See your local exam distributor for more information. The exams are run by Certiport.com so they have information on their website about the exams, objectives etc and if you login to the Certiport Portal (you will need an account for this to use during your exam) then they have some tools in there to assist also. Let me know if you have any further questions. |
