Opening Word /Excel reinstalls files, loses recent files
I have just (reluctantly but I have to use the wretched thing) re-installed Word Home & Student 2010, after re-installing W7 ultimate on one of my pcs. Every time I open the program (by clicking on a desktop icon for Word), it says it has to set up files, and I have to wait while it chugs through re-installing files.
This has not happened to me before, and does not happen with my other installations of Word.. With Excel in the same package the recent files are also lost on re-start, but it does not go through a 'Reinstall files' phase. One possibility that occurred to me was that it was constantly catching up with updates, but for the last two days there have been none of any kind for any Office program. The short delay is irritating but more important is that I lose the contents of the Recent Files folder. Can anyone kindly suggest how to stop this ? Many thanks, adj Background: ASUS M4N78-AM, nVidia GeForce 8200m AMD Phenom II x4 810 @2600 MHz, 2x2048 DDR2 SDRAM, 2x ST3320418AS 320GB not very full |

Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Programs & Features > Microsoft Office > Change in the Windows Control Panel)? Do you have any other Office versions installed?

This (Home and Student 2010) is the only version installed. Thanks again, Andrew |

Control Panel Repair seems to have done the trick
Dear Paul
Thank you, it seems to have worked (much to my surprise, the last time I tried that -years ago - it was an abject failure). Really useful suggestion, thanks again, Andrew PS Thanks for your e-mail about exclusion dictionaries: if you had read what I wrote, you would have seen that I had tried the link without success.
