Default Configuration Process dialog box repeatedly appears

I recently installed Office 2010. When I open Word for the first time each day, I get a Configuration Process dialog box, which says, "Configuring Microsoft Office Home & Student 2010." Once completed, the program then takes me to Word. If I close and re-open Word, I do not get this message. But, the next day, or even later in the same day, the configuration dialog box reappears.

This does not occur when I use Excel.

What might cause this constant repetition?

Sir Paul --

You were right on the money. The solution pertaining to the registry change did the trick. Not being versed in registry alterations, I had to make some guesses as to what some of the symbols implied, but it all worked out. My thanks for your taking the time to respond to my question.

On another subject (while you are a captive audience and an MVP?), I installed Office 2010 on a desktop with a 64-bit Vista platform. The installation was installed for a 32-bit system, although I did not request such (nor was asked to) during the installation. I share Office files with a Dell laptop that I have that uses a 32-bit Vista platform.

Technically, should I uninstall Office and install the 64-bit version? Will this create compatibility problems when the files are used on my 32-bit system on the laptop? If the 64-bit version is a preferred install, how does one indicate at the time of installation that this is the route to be taken, as opposed to the 32-bit route(perhaps a default?)?

Many thanks!

Gordon

Hi Gordon,

There is no need to install the 64-bit Office. Indeed MS only recommends it for people using extremely large Excel workbooks, etc. The file formats are the same, so there's no compatability issues on that front. IIRC, when installing Office on a 64-bit system, the installer gives you the 32 & 64 bit options.

Senor --

I'll leave things alone that are working.....!

When I did the install, however, I don't remember being given the option of performing a 32 or 64-bit install. But, a moot issue now.

Thanks for your help!

Gordon
