Windows XP Characters changing between software and mail merge output??

Hi, thanks for the advice, I had thought about formatting the merge field as you suggested but often the Notes field in the Housing System has not only amounts but freeform text also so it's not always the same output.

I checked the fonts but they are the same - This morning the £ are coming out as letter J's for some reason?
