Hi Sam,

What you could do is to insert a Hyperlink into the Word document in the normal way and set the display text to whatever you want. Having done that, select the Hyperlink and press Shift-F9 to expose the field code. It'll look something like:
{HYPERLINK "C:\\Users\\Sam\\Documents\\Sourcefile.doc"}
You can then delete the 'C:\\Users\\Sam\\Documents\\Sourcefile.doc' and replace it with your mergefield, thus:
{HYPERLINK "«H_Link_Path»"}
where 'H_Link_Path' is your mergefield's name.
