Hi all,
I've been wrestling with Word for a while now trying to create a clickable hyperlink that varies depending on the value of a given field in the data source. This is for use in an email merge. I've gotten as far as this: Quote:
Anyone have any suggestions for how to avoid this strange issue? Thanks! P.S. These are the steps/instructions I've followed thus far: Basic hyperlink set-up: email mail merge in Office 2010 with hyperlinks | originaldougal Setting bookmarks to prevent merge field erasure: Adding hyperlinks in a mail merge document from a Excel database - Microsoft Community |

As clearly stated in the Mailmerge Hyperlink ‘Click Here’ Insertion topic in the Mailmerge Tips & Tricks 'Sticky' thread at the top of this forum (https://www.msofficeforums.com/mail-...s-tricks.html) - which is one of the links your own references link back to:

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your response. I did see that note in the Tips & Tricks topic, but I'm not sure how it applies here. The Microsoft support page it links to seems identical to the page I used, except that "originaldougal.com" seems to be geared towards more recent versions of Office. And the issue I'm running into isn't that my "data source fields are converted to plain text," but that the underlying link is being changed from my desired URL (e.g., "www.bing.com") to a different, broken URL (e.g., "https://my.sharepoint.com/personal/Documents/www.bing.com"). I can't seem to find any guidance on this elsewhere. I fully acknowledge that I may be missing something obvious that you're trying to point out - so just let me know if that's the case! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers, Benjamin |

Given that your IF test omits the required 'http://' or 'https://' from each of the conditional outputs, Word assumes you're referring to a bookmark in the document itself.

Thanks for the follow-up, Paul!
I tested out the http:// addition and sure enough, that did the trick. Thanks for your help! Really appreciate it. |
