If you right-align the paragraph containing the mergefield, you could use a field switch coded as:
\# ",0')';(,0)"
In your mergefield, it would look like:
{MERGEFIELD MyNumber \# ",0')';(,0)"}
The trick is to format the ) in ')' with a colour the same as your page background.
