In Word 2013/365 you can use either of two virtually undocumented fields to create a barcode directly in Word. These are the DisplayBarCode and MergeBarCode fields. This does not require adding any fonts and can be used as a part of a mailmerge. The QR barcode shown was generated using one of these fields using my Add-In. So was the attached more traditional barcode. These fields do not work in earlier versions of Word.
