As an example:
{IF{MERGEFIELD LL}= "1" "→{MERGEFIELD DocName}→↵ →→" \* Charformat} with I as a highlight, would return DocName in plain text on a green highlighted background. Similarly: {IF{MERGEFIELD LL}= "1" "→{MERGEFIELD DocName}→↵ →→" \* Charformat} with I as a highlight, would return DocName in red text on a yellow highlighted background.
