No, not a thread on pure javascript but the javascript api for Office apps. To be used for writing Word add-ins etc. Based on my Googling it was introduced with Word 2013 but has had some serious upgrades over the past year.

I suspect there may be some interest in translating VBA to the equivalent javascript api calls for us amateur coders who are fed up of VBA running out of memory etc.

I'm having a look at it at the moment as my Christmas break activity but my brain is beginning to melt and dribble out of my ears. We have a VBA for Word forum so why not a javascript for Word (etc) forums(s).
