You need to make sure you your desktop computer has Chinese and Japanese languages installed. It sounds like your laptop does but your desktop doesn't. To check, go to Start\Control Panels\Regional and Language Options. Click on the Tab labeled "Languages" then click on "Details". You will see a list of the installed languages on your computer. If you don't see Chinese and Japanese listed then you will need to install them.
