Embedding Excel charts in PPT or Word

I frequently embed Excel charts into Powerpoint presentations and use an add-in to periodically update the Excel data from a location on my network. Every time I close and reopen the chart from within the presentation, my addins don't show up anymore (even though they are checked as available) and I have to turn them off and then back on again for them to work.



I have even tested this with the analysis Toolpak and the same behavior occurs. The same thing happens in Word as well. Is this a limitation of the shared charting feature?
