![]() I have quite a few Word 2000 and Excel 2000 files that I have maintained on my Windows 10 computer and that have never given me any problems. I am thinking about buying a Windows 11 computer and I would like to install Office 2000 on it. Will it work okay? Specifically Excel 2000?

What is the reason for upgrading to a Win 11 system ?

Although you may be able to get Office 2000 to run on a Win 11 system, you probably won't get full functionality and you will compromise your system's security.

@logit
I am upgrading to a Windows 11 system because the bozos at Microsoft want more money and have chosen to leave and millions of others me high and dry in October 2025.

Windows 10 isn't going to stop working in October 2025. I still have systems running Windows 7 & Windows 2000...

I wouldn't change machines based on your stated reason/s. Your Windows 10 system will run fine for a number of years. At best, if you have a small level of RAM, you might want to upgrade ... but I wouldn't go with a Win 11 for your reason/s.

I certainly do not want to change out of Windows 10. I am totally happy with it and with my Office 2000 apps.
I was thinking more of security. I have less and less confidence in the stuff I read about Windows 10 computers suddenly becoming totally hacked and useless on November 1, 2025. So I think I'll just go with Windows 11 when my Windows 10 computers die. I appreciate all of the comments I've received!

Windows 11 won't be any more secure than Windows 10. It's a Windows product, of which nothing is secure.

I wouldn't agree with Logit's assessment, either.

You could eventually use a Linux distro instead of Windows...

And sacrifice 35 years of working with MS products????
At 81 years old, the prospect of learning a new OS does not exactly leave me with a warm and fuzzy feeling... ![]()

Well, as you don't seem to trust MS anymore...( and I won't blame you for that)

If I were you . . . I would get a newer version of Excel and install it on your Windows 10 PC now.
You can open Excel 2000 files in newer versions of Excel, then save them in the new format. You may have a few minor issues to iron out, but nothing difficult. Then you will be ready if you are forced to change your PC to Windows 11. Finally just an opinion - I don't think that the world will come crashing around your ears if you continue to use an "unsupported" Windows 10 PC. Obviously Microsoft want you to think that it will, but they are hardly an independent arbiter ! |

Thanks to all for your ideas!
I think I'll just continue with Windows 10 until something absolutely forces me to replace it.
