Hi, I'm new here.


Today I'm experiencing a bad issue for the first time.
Excel hangs at the startup window indefinitely - like forever.
This happens when I launch it from the programs (Windows) menu as well as when I click on a file name (ANY .xlsx file).
All other Office programs work fine.
I have restarted the pc two times to no avail.

What can it be?

Hi Pecoflyer.
I have just tried to repair my Office installation but it did not work.
I have visited every possible Microsoft support and help pages. At a certain point I found the tip to update Office from the Account menu inside an Office App (e.g., Word), but there is NO Update button in the Account menu.


EDIT my system info:
Windows 11
MS Office Professional Plus 2016

Did you also reinstall it from scratch as suggested?

I have uninstalled Office 2016 and installed Office 365, which I had available from my employer. Still Excel is somewhat slow in the startup phase, much slower than the other Office apps... maybe this is physiological?

Is it slow overall or with a specific workbook?

It is slow only in the startup phase, then it works normally, but it is something I can live with, I guess.

Perhaps enable multi-threading in Excel - Options - Advanced?

Multithreading is already enabled (by default I guess, since I don't even know what it means).
