Best approach gas meter readings into graph ?
Hi,
I dont remember to take gas meter readings each day, I normally take them every Friday or Saturday if I forget Friday, but I also have them 2 days apart, even 1 day back to back as it were when sussing certain things going on with new system. 1st column says January and I have typed 1 2 3 4 etc downwards for date (so its a number format), 2nd column meter reading, 3rd the time, 4th February meter readings, 5th time, 6th column march meter readings, etc etc. Q1. What do I need to do to get this 2018 sheet suitable for graph making ? Q2. I have 1 sheet per year and need to compare the different years useage on the one graph, how is that done ? Q3. Should it simply just use the readings with the line , surely the line will keep rising !!! or subtract next from last to display gas used and graph that figure, can it in fact perform such a calculation and display result ? ok if one per day but not in my case. Q3. Can I have it that it predicts the reading/useage in the blank days as an average usage between two readings when making the line ? Q4. Should I use a wizard or what and which one. Q5. Anything better than graph to best display gas per day ? Q6. If I can get max temp for the days it would be good to display those as a line as well. maybe red pecked for temp and red solid for 2017 for example. Excel 2010 by the way. Cheers DBenz |

Maybe you can get some good ideas with these sites...

Hi, thanks for the replies,
I will try out my sheet which has column for month, and row for date, entries in some cells, though examples show all cells with values, as if an ideal world, I dont get to take a reading except friday or sometimes another day, not sure if it will like that. My 12 columns each with 30 or 31 and 28 cells (feb) needs to be strung along X axis, with the meter readings subtracted one from the other to give gas used as points for the gas used on the Y axis. However I now need advice on another sheet. It has first column time, second is gas boiler temperature, third is gas flame Indicator on or off TIME TEMP FLAME INDICATOR 00:00:00 45 Off 00:00:08 44 Off 00:00:15 44 ON 00:00:17 45 ON 00:00:19 46 ON 00:00:21 47 ON 00:00:23 48 ON 00:00:27 49 ON 00:00:45 50 Off 00:00:47 49 Off 00:00:49 48 Off 00:00:52 47 Off 00:01:02 47 ON 00:01:05 48 ON using scatter with line, I have X as time and Y as temp, I need to also have on X the On or Off as a coloured area, or somehow show on and off zones. On and Off as cell values dont get recognised in a graph, needs to be numerical I think. How do I do this ON and OFF thing ? On as green and off as blue areas for example. I see nothing on such at all. Thanks DBenz |

Sorry, but I don't quite understand what you desire. Is there any way you can present a pictoral on what you desire?

Hi, first and original part is wip, not sure how I use 12 columns of data and get them to become the X axis.
N0ot sure the examples cover that situation. yes its a new sub question. Here is the visual of what I would like. (should say indicator at the left axis text by the way ! DBenz |

When you have a new question, indirectly related to an existing thread, it's always best to start a new one eventually containing a link to the existing one
The way you "mixed " the posts makes it difficult for a mod to create a new thread but you can do it. This way you might get better and faster answers
