Hi...,

Would someone help me with a conditional formatting problem.

There are two worksheets with the first being conditioned to format particular cells black if certain symbols are present on the second worksheet.



1. First worksheet - refers to the second worksheet

In the first worksheet, located in one column a series of rows equate to Worksheet
2'!J7, Worksheet 2'!J8, Worksheet 2'!J9...etc.

Each row has been conditionally formatted to turn black if presented with an unique
value, consisting either of: I, Iim, IIIm, IV, V, Vim, or VII

i.e row J7 only looks for VII, row J8 only looks for Vim...etc

2. In the second worksheet, located in one row a series of columns will be filled with
either of the above symbols of which the first worksheet will refer to.

However, the conditional formatting function within the first worksheet is confused as to what symbol it is looking at i.e. if the symbol is IV - it also formats those cells showing I, Iim, IIIm, IV - since all of these start with I

In an attempt to remedy I have tried the following:

1. Absolute and relative addressing
2. Deleted the entire cells and reinserted the format
3. Checked to see if there are any spaces that should not have been entered.
4. Formatted the cells in both worksheets to text

To no avail - does anyone have a answer?
