Default Excel 2013 two laptops near identical spec performing differently

I am not sure exactly what the problem area is, but any help or guidance would be gratefully received.
Two laptops, near identical spec.

1) both running Windows 10 pro, 64-bit operating system, X 64 based processor.
2) machine one....i5,6gb ram,256 ssd
machine two....i7,8gb ram,256ssd
3) both have office 2013, home and business, stand-alone.
4) I have had both office 2010 and 2013 installed on both.
I have kept 2010 because I use two add-ins for excel which do not play well with office 2013.
I have been having increasing problems with machine 2, lock-ups etc, probably due to 10 updates; only occurring in about the last three weeks.
On machine 2, Microsoft message said problems caused by incompatibility of having 32-bit and 64-bit office installed on the same machine.
I duly uninstalled office 2010 and reinstall office 2013.
I am now in the crazy position where trying to load the same number of Excel worksheets that I used to use(Now with Excel 2013 only) now throws up error messages of the kind .. Out of memory and the Excel worksheet locks up.
I haven't attempted to make any changes to machine 1 and this is ticking along quite happily, Office 2010 and 2013 both installed, no error messages, no problems.
Excel 2010 happily works with the same number of worksheets as before.
I really have no idea what is happening.

You cannot have both a 32-bit and a 64-bit installation of Office in the same Windows environment.

Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Start > Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change > Repair)?

I would have disagreed with you until today, as my older laptop let me hold both.
However even this has now started to playup, with conflicts, etc.
I suspect it has something to do with windows 10 updates, as this is a relatively new phenomena.
Now reverted to 1 laptop with office 2010 (had to remove 1 of my addins) and 1 laptop with 2013.
Still can not understand how excel 2010 lets me load all the workbook/sheets I have always worked with (taskmanager count usually shows 48) and yet the newer 2013 keeps giving out of memory problems.

You can - you just have to install the 64bit version(s) first. It's not a supported scenario as far as I know, but it does work.

According to Microsoft, though, you can't - they're not compatible with each other, even if you install different versions.

thanks for your advice.
I really still have no real understanding of my problems.
I think my way forward wil be to ignore office 2013.
As soon as I can find another office 2010, Iwill be installing this on both machines.
My addins are more important to me, than how pretty a newer version looks.
regards..
