Default Stocktake using excel 2007

Hi i'm new on here so please forgive me if i break any rules, i promise i learn quick and will obey master.

I am struggling at work to create a simple stocktake system. We use an epos system for stock and I can save an existing stockfile to excel including the barcode serials. I can also create a scanable barcode. I add another column and then scan my stock which is all ok. what I want to do is to compare the scanned stock with the database to show either matches or discrepencies automatically. Is there anything I can do or do any of you know where I can find the correct formula. Any help would ge great because this will save me so many man hours having to look through thousands of lines of stock. I should add I can sort the barcodes into a-z order. Thank you guys in advance. I await full of confidence in your ability, so no pressure.
