Try this: formate column "A" to a military time format. Then place the following values or fomulas in the noted cells:

A1: 00:30 this is the lunch you want to subtract out
A2: 08:00 this is start of the day
A3: 17:00 this is the end of the day
A4: =sum((A3-A2)-A1)
