I very much doubt this has anything to do with the Office version. You still haven't indicated whether you've done a repair or saved the file in the in the xlsx/xlsm format - merely saving it as an xls file with a new name wouldn't change anything. And, of course, if you do save it in the xlsx/xlsm format, it's the new version of the file you'd have to test for error messages.
