Restore previous version of Excel 2010 that got saved over

I edited an excel file that I've been working on for days. My last edit got rid of a lot of useful data.

How can I recover the previous version?

You could check under File>Versions. If there's nothing there, check your backups (including email attachments, USB drives and the like for an earlier copy); otherwise it's lost.
