Have you got all updates installed? Probably an old version of the MSCOMCTL.ocx might cause the error. You should find the file in Windows\SysWOW64. The properties to the file should show the version 6.1.98.39 - that's the newest one as far as I know. In case your machine doesn't count with that version I suggest, that you first ask the "external company" what they've got in use to verify if indeed the MSCOMCTL is involved and the reason which raises the error.
