I solved the issue by adding the following at the beginning of each file:

Code:

    Workbooks.Open Filename:= _
        "?:\(path to the file)", UpdateLinks:=0

And this at the end:

Code:

    ActiveWorkbook.Save
    ActiveWindow.Close
