Default Debuging Visual Basic within Excel usage

I was able to activate visual basic on my Excel ribbon but I ran into a code error - old coding example and apparent change in MSN format. Is there a debug feature that I can use? My coding background is dated but I was very good at it when active - 14 special languages. TIA JP
