I would love to help I really would but I messed around with this for over an hour and cannot come up with anything apart from making a formula to analyze the data validation cells' value and then displaying the result you want. You specified that you do not want to use any VBA which is too bad because we could put something together that would not even require you to analyze the code or run anything it would just not allow any other value in the cell besides what you set. Sorry without VBA I cannot be of any other assistance.
