Whether you copy/paste or use Insert, the image ends up being inserted into the document. As far as Word is concerned, the result is the same with one important difference: If you insert into a table cell with a fixed row height and/or column width, the image size will be constrained to fit within those fixed dimensions; that does not apply to copy/paste.
