Just use hyperlinks, so for each graphic type the text that describes.
Then highlight the sentence (or word). Then go to the "Insert" menu and click "hyperlink". Then click the button that says "File to browse to the file you want the link to open. select it click OK and OK again on the other box. Now you can click on the item in the list to open the file related to it |

I'm not using hyperlinks to get to web graphics, though that might be something to explore: I'm using the out-of-the-box Insert picture in file > Link option. It seems to me that it's, well, "challenged" to say the least when you want to manage the links.
