I got your question just fine. I just don't have time right now to set up a document in that format to play around with. I don't know the answer off-hand. However, I am not the only volunteer answering questions here and someone else may have an answer for you before I can come up with one. My other suggestions were simply addressed to your writing a thesis with numbered headings. If you have not read Shauna Kelly's article chances are strong that your numbering structure is messed up even if you haven't seen evidence of that yet.
I'm fine with Roman numerals. I'm a lawyer and we still use Latin from time to time.
My favorite is "Res ipsa loquitur." It means "the thing speaks for itself," which it obviously does not, being in Latin.
