In both the original Word document and the and PDF created from it, the word "Description" is correct. But when I print it, it comes out "Descripo n".

I tried it with two different printers: HP LaserJet 5000 & Epson WorkForce 845 inkjet -- same results.
If printing the document causes these problems, clearly they can't be caused by the Save As PDF or XPF addin, since that would only relate to saving the files. You could try replacing the Save As PDF or XPF addin (i.e. uninstall, then reinstall a fresh copy), but I doubt that would make a difference. A possibility I didn't discuss earlier is that the font file is damaged; you might try running:
SFC /scannow
from an elevated command prompt. That should repair any damaged system files - possibly including fonts; otherwise, if it's just one font that giving you grief, try uninstalling then reinstalling that font.
