IF Statement ASK Fill in
We have a mail merge formula that uses an IF statement to ask for more information if a lookup matches a particular value.
{IF"Fullname"="Santa Claus"{ASK what"What do you want for Christmas?"\o}{Ref what \*MERGEFORMAT}"} Whilst it does what we want it to do it asks for the information3 times before it does it i.e. the "What do you want for Christmas?" dialogue box pops up 3 times (not all at once). Any ideas on what is causing this? Many thanks in advance Gary |

Are you merging from a mailmerge main document, or from a template? The latter is liable to generate extra prompts
There is also no need for the ASK field. Try: {IF{MERGEFIELD Fullname}= "Santa Claus" {FILLIN "What do you want for Christmas?"\o}}

Thanks for the suggestion Macro. I didn't know it was a know problem with templates that multiple prompts could be generated. Is this another one of those things that MS is aware of?

Templates used for mailmerge main documents typically generate doubled prompts. This is a long-recognised behaviour. I'm sure MS is aware of it.
