Red face how to delete table without losing space

Hi guys, I want to delete a table but does not want to lose the space it used up, i.e. whenever i delete the table (using right click> delete table), the table deletes and the text below it comes up.

What i want is that the text below it should remain unchanged after deletion, so that none of headings below get messed up!

I forgot there used to be some keyboard shortcuts to perform this task.

I am using Word 2010, kindly help...
