How to reference data from body to footer
Hi:
I have some worksheets with fields, and I want to take the student's name (which they enter into a field) and automatically put it in the footer, so it will be repeated on all the worksheet pages when we print them off. I've tried creating bookmarks and referencing them in the footer, but it doesn't work and at one point Word popped up an error message saying it can't accept the field code (e.g. Ref) in the footer. It seems to breakdown only when referencing a field, as if I reference a word that's already in the document, Word puts it in the footer without a problem. I have Word 2010 and run Windows 7. Does anybody know a way that's not too complicated where I could pull the student's name from the body of the worksheet and have it duplicate in the footer? Or, if Word is supposed to be able to do this without a problem, do you have any guidance for troubleshooting? Thanks, Jen |

Hi Jen,
If you create a paragraph Style or character Style named 'Student' for the Student names, and apply that Style to those names, then you can use a StyleRef field in the header or footer to replicate the data. The StyleRef field would be coded as: {StyleRef Student} where the field braces are created via Ctrl-F9. PS: You mention both Word and worksheets. The above can be used for a plain document or a mailmerge document, but not if you're referring to worksheets embedded in a Word document.
