Unhappy Word 2007 won't let me open or save documents!

Hello,

I just installed Office 2007 on my computer. When I create a document in Word and try to save it (either using the icon or going to File>Save As), the computer returns that ominous "beep" and does nothing else. The dialog box won't open up. When I go to File> Open the dialog box won't open as well. Surprisingly, I don't have this problem with Excel. That program works just fine.

When I start Word in safe mode, it works fine!

This is what I've already tried to do, with no success:
1) uninstall/reinstall
2) delete the Normal.dotm (this helps temporarily until I restart)
3) run the Repair function

4) recycle all my tmp files
5) tried removing my add-ins (there were no addins that I saw)
6) removing other programs like Adobe that might cause a conflict
7) banging my head against the wall

Please help!
